GG4L, or the Global Grid for Learning, safely connects applications to schools. It allows schools to securely share roster data with applications through the Grid, allows EdTech vendors (like e-hallpass) to connect to the Grid and quickly deploy solutions to schools, and it promotes data interoperability. It’s a safe, secure, and manageable way to make EdTech accessible and inexpensive.
The Safer Schools in America Grant, led by GG4L and McREL through the Safer Schools in America Impact Initiative, “is an in-kind grant focused on EdTech applications that support a safer school environment in order to enable teaching and learning. Solutions range across the 7 research-based domains from campus security, physical health and wellness, emotional and behavioral health, emergency preparedness and management, digital safety, community engagement, and healthy school and district culture.”
If a school district is a member of GG4L, it can nominate its schools to receive grant funding for innovative safety EdTech solutions (deployed and used with no cost to the schools for a three-year term). E-hallpass is one of the software solutions that is available to participating schools through this groundbreaking initiative.
With e-hallpass, physical security of students is paramount, and the data made available through the application’s reporting features can help administrators and teachers refine their emergency preparedness measures. We’re proud to have our software (and the added safety and security it provides) made available to even more schools through this grant. The deadline to apply for the initiative is September 15th. The application process is free and takes only 10 minutes to complete. Learn more at https://gg4l.com/initiatives/safer-schools/.
Eduspire Solutions is proud to partner with ClassLink, a tool which “provides OneClick single sign-on into web and Windows applications, and instant access to files at school and in the cloud. Accessible from any computer, tablet or smartphone, ClassLink is ideal for 1 to 1 and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) initiatives,” allowing more time for learning and less time logging in.
Used by thousands of schools, “ClassLink delivers instant access to all your web resources from all your devices. You can also launch remote Windows desktop applications right in your browser, with no software to install.” Now e-hallpass is available through ClassLink as well, making it even easier for students, teachers, and administrators to experience the transparency, security, and accountability that they desire.
ClassLink removes the need for having separate processes to manage user files, create or transfer csv files, or other time-consuming manual work on the part of school technical or administrative staff. All user data is kept up to date automatically via the state-of-the-art secure API connection. Any prospective or existing school customers of e-hallpass that would like to switch to using ClassLink for seamless user provisioning and authentication should contact Eduspire Solutions and we can easily arrange for the switch.
ClassLink is also iKeepSafe certified, making them the perfect partner for us. Like us, ClassLink cares about student privacy.
Ridgewood freshmen to set class times under new flex schedule
Ridgewood High School freshmen will design their own weekly class schedules this fall under a new flex schedule program to begin in about six weeks, said Principal Chris Uhle.
Flextime Manager functions through the students’ school-issued iPads and gives students an opportunity to design weekly schedules, with the help of an adviser, based on their individualized academic needs. Read More
Introducing Kiosk Mode for e-hallpass
Great news! Did you know that your teachers and students can benefit from e-hallpass even if your school isn’t 1-to-1 or has limited access to devices in certain locations?
Thanks to a new feature called Kiosk Mode, e-hallpass is available to serve multiple students from one device in a single location. Just assign a device to a central location, like the gym or principal’s office, and enable Kiosk Mode. Students can enter their unique credentials and their destination to start a digital hall pass. This functionality resembles that of a registration desk at a conference, where each attendee can use the same device to sign in, one after another. Think of it as a digital check-in, check-out system, but with an active, student-initiated hall pass that ends once the student reaches his or her destination and either checks in at other kiosk or has their pass ended by a staff member from their dashboard.
On the back-end, the hall passes created in Kiosk Mode work the same way that all the normal student passes do in e-hallpass. They are updated real-time on the teacher and admin dashboards, providing all the same safety and security benefits that e-hallpass users already know and love!

This Is the Future
It’s almost 2020. Wait — read that again. 2020. How futuristic does that sound? In the movie Back to the Future, “the future” was portrayed as 2015 — which was almost five years ago! If we’re in the future, then why are so many of our schools stuck in the past?
So Do Teachers Still Want Apples and Coffee Mugs at the End of the Year?
The internet abounds with subjective blog posts about what teachers really want for end-of-year gifts and what their back-to-school aspirations include (i.e. another Starbucks gift card, a more organized classroom). But studies from DonorsChoose and the like tell an altogether different story: that teachers. want. tech. (period).
Aside from the obvious device-supported learning endeavors and personalization that classroom technology enables, not much thought is given to the school-wide impact of effective technology use. School safety and security are among this decade’s top concerns: being “in the future” comes with increased dangers, and yet schools that haven’t evolved are facing compounding problems using the same, outdated methods from, well, the past.
Threats Are Abated with Widespread Tech Use
At Eduspire Solutions, our mission statement and purpose are to transform education through technology. With responsible tech tools like e-hallpass, our digital hall pass application, schools all over the country have reported improvements in the areas of school safety, classroom culture, and behavior management. Here is a short list of security concerns that can be resolved with the use of a digital hall pass:
- Student Safety: pinpoint students’ whereabouts outside the classroom, building-wide
- Vandalism: protect school property and prevent costly damage
- Bullying, Drug Use, and Other Misbehavior: restrict certain students from meeting in the halls at the same time, or disable certain hall passes altogether for a set time period
- Hall Pass Abuse: restrict excessive bathroom and water fountain passes and see a live timer with location notifications to prevent aimless wandering
- Lack of Actionable Data: gain access to real-time insights and regular reporting that provide crucial information about students’ hall traffic patterns
Don’t think tech like this exists? Think again — we’re in the future, remember? If your school is still using paper hall passes (or some random object), it’s time to hop in your DeLorean and park in the year 2020 with hundreds of other schools that are using e-hallpass.
Added bonuses that teachers really love: it’s sanitary, and it virtually eliminates classroom disruptions. Preserving instructional time and seasonal immunity? Yes please!
